Jeff Hinkemeyer Obituary, Death – The loss of Jeff Hinkemeyer has left a deep void in the racing world, particularly across the dirt tracks of the Upper Midwest where he built a career defined by excellence and endurance. A native of St. Cloud, Hinkemeyer passed away at the age of 67 after a determined fight with lung cancer, closing a chapter on a life that helped shape regional racing history.

Hinkemeyer’s career in the NASCAR Winston Racing Series placed him among the elite drivers of his time. But what truly set him apart was not just his ability to win it was how often and how consistently he did so. With more than 200 feature wins and 21 championships spread across nine tracks, he built a reputation as one of the most formidable competitors in dirt track racing.

His list of accomplishments reads like a highlight reel of the sport’s most prestigious events. From his victories at Proctor Speedway, where he claimed multiple Silver 1000 titles, to his commanding win at Hibbing Raceway during the Labor Day Shootout, Hinkemeyer repeatedly proved his ability to perform on the biggest stages. His success at Dodge County Speedway further demonstrated his adaptability and skill across different tracks and conditions.

One of the defining moments of his career came in 1990, a season that remains legendary in racing circles. Behind the wheel of the No. 4F, owned by Joe Salner, Hinkemeyer captured the NASCAR Great Northern Region championship in dominant fashion, winning 18 of 22 races. It was a performance that showcased not just raw talent, but strategic brilliance and an unwavering competitive drive. That same season, he added another championship at Viking Speedway, reinforcing his status as one of the sport’s greats.
