Steve Lanzo Obituary, Death – The passing of Steve Lanzo has left an irreplaceable void in the hockey world of Verona and beyond. Known for his lifelong dedication to the sport and his unwavering commitment to youth development, Steve’s legacy is one that stretches across decades of mentorship, leadership, and community service.

As a coach and board member of the Montclair Hockey Club, Steve became a guiding force for countless young athletes. His influence began in the early 2000s and continued through years of shaping teams at every level, including guiding his son Blake’s teams from Mites through Bantams. For Steve, coaching was never just about the game it was about shaping lives.

Players often describe him as calm under pressure, thoughtful in his approach, and deeply invested in their growth. He believed in accountability, but also in encouragement. He understood that young athletes needed both discipline and belief, and he provided both in abundance.

His impact extended further when he took on the role of head coach for the men’s hockey team at Montclair State University. There, he continued to instill the same values he had always championed: teamwork, resilience, and respect for the game.

Despite his accomplishments in hockey, those closest to Steve often speak first about his character. He was a mentor not only to players but to fellow coaches and families. He was known for his patience, his willingness to listen, and his ability to guide others with quiet confidence. His presence behind the bench was reassuring, and his leadership left a lasting impression on everyone who worked with him.

Steve’s passing after a long and courageous battle with cancer has been met with profound grief. Yet even in mourning, there is also deep gratitude for the time he gave, the lessons he taught, and the lives he helped shape.

At the center of his life was his family: his wife Kendra and children Sadie, Blake, and Chase. To them, Steve was a constant source of love and support. His devotion to his family mirrored the dedication he showed in his coaching, reflecting a life grounded in care and commitment.

As the hockey community comes together to remember him, Steve Lanzo is being honored not only as a coach, but as a builder of people. His legacy will continue to live on in every rink, every practice, and every player who carries forward the lessons he taught.

Steve Lanzo will be remembered with deep respect and lasting gratitude.
